Product Description:

The Function of FESTO Solenoid Valves

FESTO solenoid valves are designed to control the switching of liquid and gas pipelines, specifically using a two position DO control. Their primary usage is for the control of smaller pipelines. In comparison, electric valves are used for analog regulation of medium flow in liquid, gas, and wind system pipelines, while being controlled by AI. Consequently, electric valves can also perform as two position switch controls for larger valves and air systems.

Electromagnetic valves can solely function as switch signals for DO control, performing solely for the purpose of small pipeline control. They are generally placed in DN50 and below pipelines, as their use is uncommon for larger applications. On the other hand, electric valves can have acquired AI feedback signals and are capable of being controlled by DO or AO in larger pipelines and air valves, a more common application.

Differences Between Electromagnetic and Electric Valves
  • The electromagnetic valve in the form of a switch is driven by a coil and can only be turned on or off, with a short action time when switching.
  • The drive for an electric valve is typically achieved through a motor. It simulates the opening or closing action, which can be adjusted to a certain extent.
Working Properties of Electromagnetic and Electric Valves

Electromagnetic valves generally possess a smaller flow coefficient and a small working pressure difference. For example, the flow coefficient of a 25 caliber solenoid valve is much smaller than that of a 15 caliber electric ball valve.

Features:

The Characteristics of FESTO Solenoid Valve

FESTO solenoid valve has several main features. Firstly, it has external leakage blocking, which makes it easy to control internal leakage and safe to use. In comparison to other automatic control valves, it doesn't require long-term action of valve stem dynamic seals, which can prevent external leakage. This is because electromagnetic valves are completed by applying electromagnetic force, making external leakage easy to block.

Secondly, the system is simple to use, can easily connect to a computer, and comes with an affordable price tag. The electromagnetic valve has a simple structure and a low price, making it an easy-to-install and maintain option compared to control valves. Additionally, the composed automatic control system is much simpler and cheaper. Solenoid valves are very convenient to connect with industrial computers due to their switch signal control.

Thirdly, solenoid valves have action express delivery, with small power and lightweight appearance. This is because of the valve's quick response time, which can be as short as a few milliseconds. Solenoid valves respond more sensitively than other automatic control valves due to their unique circuit. Properly designed solenoid valve coils have low power consumption and are energy-saving products. The valve can also achieve automatic valve position control without consuming any electricity during normal operation.

Fourthly, solenoid valves have limited accuracy adjustment and a restricted range of applicable media. Electromagnetic valves usually have two states, on and off, and the valve core can only be in two extreme positions. Therefore, the adjustment accuracy is still limited. Electromagnetic valves have high requirements for the cleanliness of the medium, and particles present in the media must be filtered out first. Viscous media are not suitable, and the viscosity range of the medium suitable for specific products is relatively narrow.

Fifthly, there are various models of FESTO solenoid valves available, and they have a wide range of uses. While electromagnetic valves have inherent shortcomings, their advantages are still prominent. They are designed into multiple products to meet different requirements and have a wide range of applications.

Applications:

Applicable Power Supply

When selecting solenoid valves, it is important to consider the type of power supply being used. Generally, AC power supply is more convenient to access than DC. If you are using DC, priority should be given to using voltage specifications of AC220V instead of DC24V. Additionally, the fluctuation of power supply voltage should be within a certain tolerance (+% 10% for AC and around ± 10% for DC). If it exceeds this tolerance, voltage stabilization measures must be taken or special orders must be made. Make sure to select rated current and power consumption based on the power supply capacity. Be aware of the high VA value during AC starting, and if the capacity is insufficient, prefer indirect solenoid valves.

Applicable Environment

The environment in which solenoid valves are placed is also an important consideration. The maximum and minimum temperatures should fall within the allowable range. In environments with high relative humidity, water droplets, or rain, choose waterproof solenoid valves. If the environment is subject to frequent vibrations, bumps, or impacts, select special varieties such as marine solenoid valves. For corrosive or explosive environments, prioritize selecting corrosion-resistant materials based on safety requirements. If environmental space is limited, choose multifunctional solenoid valves as they eliminate the need for bypass and three manual valves and are convenient for online maintenance.

Applicable Media

Different solenoid valves should be chosen depending on the state of the media, whether it be gas-liquid or mixed. It is also important to choose products with different specifications for different medium temperatures, as this can affect the service life of the valve. Check that the medium temperature is within the allowable range of the solenoid valve. For medium with a viscosity above 50cSt and a diameter less than 15mm, use a high viscosity solenoid valve. When the cleanliness of the medium is not high, install a backwash filter valve in front of the solenoid valve. If the medium flows in a directional manner and backflow is not allowed, choose a suitable solenoid valve.
