HYDAC diaphragm accumulators utilize the compressibility of a gas (nitrogen) in storing hydraulic energy. The gas is necessary because fluids are unable to store energy on their own due to their lack of compressibility. The diaphragm plays a crucial role in separating the gas and fluid sides of the accumulator.
The function of the diaphragm accumulator is to draw in fluid from the hydraulic circuit as pressure increases, compressing the gas. When the pressure decreases, the energy is then released back into the circuit through the expansion of the gas. A poppet is incorporated into the diaphragm to prevent it from extruding through the fluid port.
HYDAC offers two types of diaphragm accumulators: welded (non-repairable) and threaded (repairable). These have been successfully utilized in both industrial and mobile applications, serving various purposes such as energy storage, pressure maintenance, leakage compensation, and vehicle hydraulic systems – including brake and suspension systems.
